Biography

I earned an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from UC Santa Barbara and a B.A. in Anthropology from UC Davis. I am a graduate of the Professional Coaching Course at New Ventures West where I received certification as an Integral Coach. I also have the ACC (Associate Certified Coach) credential from the International Coach Federation. In addition, I participated in the Management Academy at UC Berkeley.

I have extensive professional experience in all sectors of the economy – business, education, nonprofit organizations and government – and in a wide variety of fields, including performing arts administration, marketing and communications, public relations, travel, training and organizational development, career planning and education.

Some of the positions that have contributed to my professional growth, learning, and competence include: vice president of an entrepreneurial active travel company (Backroads, Inc.), executive director of a nonprofit arts organization (Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center), career counselor and workshop leader (Turning Point Career Center, Macalester and Grinnell Colleges), associate director of a large academic advising office (UC Berkeley, College of Letters & Science), organization development and training specialist (Viacom Cable International), public relations and marketing manager (Music Academy of the West and Music In The Air).

In each of these careers, there were common elements: working for an exceptional business or organization, opportunity to learn new skills, and meeting the challenges of managing other people.
Through these work experiences, I have developed knowledge and skills in:

  • coaching employees and clients
  • leading teams
  • designing and teaching workshops
  • interviewing people, human resources
  • planning and analysis
  • managing projects
  • strategic planning
  • negotiations
  • fundraising
  • written communications, including: reports, handbooks, website content, grants, marketing and fundraising materials
